About the Lithops 'Living Stones' Plant
Meet the little rock stars of the succulent world! Lithops may look like a handful of pebbles, but these curious living stones are plants with plenty of personality. Their plump, paired leaves have a distinctive central split, giving them the look of tiny stones or cloven hooves.
A plant collector's favourite, these slow-growing succulents turn a small spot in your collection into a conversation starter. Their patterned tops are worth a closer look, and their unusual appearance makes them just as charming on their own as among your other leafy favourites. Less jungle, more miniature rock concert.
Plant care
Light: Bright direct or indirect light.
Water: Your Lithops needs only tiny amounts of water during its spring and autumn growing seasons. The existing care recommendation is about a teaspoon every two weeks to keep the leaves plump. In summer and winter, the plants go dormant and do not need watering unless the leaves start to wrinkle, indicating that their stored water is running low.
Difficulty: Easy, with careful attention to seasonal watering.
Feed: Apply cactus or general-purpose fertilizer at half strength, no more than once a month during the growing season. These low-maintenance succulents do not require much supplementary feeding.
Toxicity: Non-toxic and pet-friendly.
Growth rate: Slow growing.
Common names: Living Stones, Cloven Hoof Plant.
Origin: Southern Africa.
