About the Common Milkweed Seed Pack Grows well in practically any well-drained soil and blooms fragrantly and profusely in the middle of summer with lavender to pink flowers. Given that it spreads quickly by rhizomes and develops readily from seed, this milkweed is among the easiest to establish. Only plants in the Asclepias genus (Milkweeds) are used by monarch butterflies to lay their eggs. Aids in fending off challenges to a dwindling population of monarch butterflies. Flower seed count: 30 Planting Tips: Seed stratification is required for 2-4 weeks. Mix seed with a slightly moistened, sterile, soil-less growing mix. Put in a labelled, sealed plastic bag and store in refrigerator for one day. The next day place in the freezer for one day. Repeat for one week, alternating between the fridge and the freezer. After stratifying, plant seed 1/4” deep in pots. Keep moist but not soggy. When seedlings are 2” tall or more, transplant outside. Sow seed indoors 5 weeks before planting outside.
